Würzburg: Pestalozzi Middle School
News from the Pestalozzi Middle School
On March 20, 2026, the Würzburg FtK kids went to the Akon Arena. To be more precise, they started at the school, where all the children met up with the FtK teacher-coach team. They then took the streetcar to the stadium. The game was really exciting and there was something to eat for everyone during the half-time break. There was even an opportunity to buy some Würzburger Kickers fan merchandise. After the final whistle, the children were even able to take photos with the players and they were delighted! Afterwards, they took the streetcar back home. It was a great day out for everyone!
A sports workshop took place on July 10, 2025: Pool Ball. This is a combination of billiards and soccer, where you stand on a large billiard field and try to sink the other balls into the respective holes in the corners of the field with your foot and with the help of a ball. “We played against each other in different teams and above all had to use our passing accuracy and tactics while playing billiards. We all had a lot of fun!”
On May 13, 2025, the Würzburg FtK group took a trip to the nearby bookstore “Erlesen” in Grombühl and attended a reading by author Knut Krüger. The author began by telling the children a little about his profession and his life before reading from his book “Football for Everyone” to the pupils. The children then read excerpts from the book together and talked about the topics covered in the book. The pupils were allowed to ask the author questions again and again and at the end Knut Krüger asked the group a few tricky soccer quiz questions.

On November 14, the group went on a trip to the North Library in the Alex Center. Here, the children had the opportunity to discover the exciting world of books and media and to strengthen their enthusiasm for reading. After a friendly introduction by a member of library staff, the children were able to browse independently, find new books and even receive a library card. The trip to the North Library was a complete success!
On March 18, the children enthusiastically took part in the reading of the book “Lena Oberndorf”. During the reading, the author also talked about her writing journey and repeatedly asked the children questions about various football-related topics. Afterwards, the author Anna Dreher read out various passages from the book and explained the context to the children. It was great for the children to meet the author herself and to see the soccer stadium from above from the lounge.

At the beginning of March 2026, the Magdeburg FtK group visited the city library in Florapark in Magdeburg together with their trainer and teacher. There, the children were warmly welcomed by the staff and given a tour of the premises. The pupils learned that you can not only borrow books in a library, but also games, audio books and magazines. They also learned how to behave in a library and what different genres of books are available there. The children were then able to explore the premises on their own. Together, the “Fußball trifft Kultur” group also chose a book that the children would now like to read in their FtK German lessons. The children really enjoyed the excursion and the FtK team hopes that this will motivate them to visit the library in the future and borrow books there. To round off the excursion, all the children were treated to an ice cream.
On December 12, 2025, the FTK Magdeburg indoor tournament took place for the second time. Magdeburg once again hosted a regional soccer tournament in which 7 teams competed. It was a great pleasure for all the children and especially for the team that won the tournament. Many thanks to all the organizers on site in Magdeburg!
In mid-September 2025, the FtK group received a visit from professional Magdeburg footballer Isabell Münch. The 1. FC Magdeburg striker and project sponsor took a lot of time to answer the children’s questions and, together with the group’s coach and teacher, she then took part in the soccer session. The children were very excited about this surprise!
At the beginning of March 2025, the FtK group went on a trip to Magdeburg Zoo. The visit to the zoo was a complete success and the weather also played along. The children had the opportunity to experience an exciting guided tour on the topic of “Animals from Africa”. We saw majestic elephants, elegant giraffes and impressive lions. The children’s enthusiasm was simply infectious and they learned lots of new things. It was an unforgettable afternoon full of fun and adventure and a great experience!

The children experienced an atmospheric game in the best weather at the soccer temple in Cologne-Müngersdorf. Even though the game ended in a clear 0:3 defeat for the visitors from Bavaria, the pupils were able to get a taste of the stadium atmosphere, get photos and autographs and spend a great and exciting afternoon.

Kiel: School at Heidenberger Teich
News from the school at Heidenberger Teich
At the beginning of November, at our usual training time, we went on a special excursion: together we went from the school to the library. A highlight was waiting for us there – professional goalkeeper Thomas Dähne! In the previous lesson, the children had prepared exciting questions that they could now ask the soccer star. He answered every question with great enthusiasm and then read aloud from a gripping soccer book. But Thomas Dähne wasn’t the only one to have his say: three children bravely presented their favorite books and contributed their love of reading. At the end there were autographs and beaming faces – a successful mix of sport and reading pleasure! At 4 p.m. we returned to school inspired and happy.
Another highlight for the FTK children took place on March 29. They took part in a special excursion: they accompanied the Holstein Kiel and Werder Bremen teams to the stadium as run-in children. After changing into their jerseys at school, they took the bus to the stadium together. Once at the stadium, they lined up, ran in with the players and then watched the match from the stands. An absolute highlight for the children!
